My dog of about 8 mo old is constantly chewing anything he can find, acts like he's always hungry, now he is eating his own feces, can you tell me why?
Thank you

Hi, though it's upsetting this is pretty much normal for an 8 month old dog. Provide lots of legitimate objects to chew. When he chews something not allowed, tell him 'no' and replace the object with whatever chew toy he is allowed. They have no idea what is or isn't allowed- to them anything is chewable, so be consistent and you will be sucessful! When they're unattended it's worth crating them or leaving them somewhere away from important furniture etc. Then he can't get the inherent reward from chewing something you'd rather he didn't. Sometimes bitter apple or other aversive scents work but not always. Eating faeces is a habit some of them pick up. The easiest prevention is to pick up the faeces the minute it's produced, so he never has a chance for the habit to get ingrained. Other than that the same principles apply- replace the unwanted behaviour with a desirable one. Good luck!
