Why does my 8 yr old cocker suddenly want to go out in the middle of the night to go potty?

There are two possiblities- behavioural or physical. Has there been any change of routine/feeding which could account for it? Has he had an upset stomach which would increase the frequency he needs to go out? Do the stools look normal? Is there any vomiting or other signs of illness. You need to rule out physical causes before looking at the behavioural side- timing of meals, walks and if he has any anxiety contributing to this.
