What would be the best recommended time for dogs to eat? Is it good to be feeding a dog human food?

I usually recommend to my clients that dogs be fed twice daily, morning and evening. Some people choose to feed their dogs once a day, but I find that those dogs may, eventually, end up getting a "sour belly" and vomit bile from time to time. The twice a day routine often keeps the dogs satisfied. Some people choose to feed their dogs human food, more so nowadays since the massive pet food recall this past March. I still am a big proponent of commercial pet food because they are balanced diets, with all of the vitamins and minerals specific to a dog's needs. If you still choose to feed your dog human food, I would recommend a cooked diet consisting of a protein source (chicken, turkey or fish), a carbohydrate source (white or brown rice or potato), veggies (carrots or broccoli) and, most importantly, a vitamin specifically made for dogs. It is a LOT of work to cook for your pet, it is much easier to purchase a complete diet in the form of a commercial dog food.

Feedin a dog twice a day is very good for them and also helps with potty training. From my experience from my own dogs feeding them human food only encourages begging.

like everyone else here i would suggest you feed you dog in the morning before you get ready to go to work and take the food away after he is done eating for the rest of the day untill you get home and feed then take the food away for the rest of the night. get him in the habit of a schedule. this will be healthier for the dogs digestive system and make sure that it is getting the correct amount of food per serving so it doesnt become overweight.

I am a big fan of feeding twice a day however, there is more to feeding than putting a dish down. Dogs are pack animals and when wild they had to migrate and hunt for food. These instincts are still present in our domestic dogs. Food, for dogs, is a form of affection. The best time to feed your dog is after they have had exercise (a walk outside, on a treadmill, or some time of physical activity) along with activity feeding time can be a perfect time for a psychological exercise. Be sure your dog is in a calm state of mind while you are filling their dish, be sure they are giving you space and not jumping at your feet, this creates respect and renforced their drive for "working for their food". When this is achieved you are eliminating the possibility of your pet developing food agression and other issues. When putting the dish down ask you dog to wait while you stand over their dish. Choose a work such as "ok" or "relese" and let that be the cue for them to begain eating. Structure is very important to having mentally healthy companions!

We leave a bowl of food down 24/7. When it's empty we refill it. Have never had any problems with behavior, potty training, respect, etc...Our dogs DONOT "pig out". They get their fill and come back later when they get hungry again. They receive daily exercise of some kind.( swimming, hunting, playing ball, long walks or just wild running in an open field.
