Dogs will lick themselves for many reasons. The most common reasons are fleas, allergies, and abnormal behavior. Where fleas are present, they represent a significant source of irritation to the skin and are the leading cause of dogs licking and chewing at their skin. Any itchy dog in a flea infested area should be treated for fleas.
When fleas and other parasites are excluded, allergies is a common cause of itching and skin irritation. Dogs and cats can have the same allergies as people and they are treated in much the same way.
Lastly, when fleas and allergies are eliminated, some dogs will chew due to anxiety or obsessive compulsive disorders. Other causes of licking must be ruled out before an animal can be treated for behavior disorders.

dogs lick because that is their way of kissing someone, or being friendly. Puppies tend to eat their poop because they simply have nothing better to do, and it may have a taste that they enjoy. We all know dogs eat anything... I know that topic may be awkward, but that's probably right. Gabriella and friend
