My puppy has a dark colored wax buildup in his ears, I went to the groomers three days ago to get him washed, nails clipped, and ears cleaned and the groomer suggested he might have ear mites, Im a college student and cant afford a vet right now is there any way to know what he has and how to fix it (or if his ears are just dirty and need cleaned again?

    Hi,

Ear mites live on the surface of the skin in the external ear canal.

Ear canal can be filled with a brown-black, crusty exudate. Mites are very irritating, so dog will scratch their ears. On the side of the face or hade, may be scrapes (wound).

Mites can be seen in otoscope or microscope examination.

It will good if vet can look at this, but to this time you can clean dog’s ears with Otodex Ear Drops (they are use for treatment of ear irritation, otitis externa , for relief of scratching and to kills mites.) You can buy these drops in pet shop.
