My dog just started scratching her ear and moaning while doing it. She also started repeatedly shaking her head. Can you tell me what might be the cause of this? I can see that her ear is slightly red inside, but can not see anything in there.

The red colour is a sign of inflammation, the possibilitys may be
1) ear mites , you cannot see these as they are microscopic
2) Ear infection
3) Foreign body (a object such as a grass seed may have fallen inside
all of the above need treatment via ear drops or antibiotics
Please see your veterinary surgeon.
