AH!

Rating: 7

Recently, my dog started to "freak out". When I go to put her into her kennel, she gives me a wierd look. Then, when I go to close the door to the kennel, she jumps toward the door while growling, barking, and what seems as if she is trying to bite me. My questions are: 1). What could have caused this, 2). How could I stop this, 3). Do you think she would attack me, and 4). What should I do if she does attack me

She might be associating the door shutting with feeling isolated. Is she happy in the kennel? Is she away from the house? Has she company? How long is she left? Is it over night? Dogs are social animals and can become quite fearful when separated from the security of their human/doggy pack.

I would seek further advice from a recommended and qualified animal behaviourist (ask your vet) just to make sure that your dog is comfortable with being left and how you might be able to improve things. Meanwhile don't make things worse by getting cross with your dog, add some thing nice to the kennel area and make sure there are lots of things for your dog to do there.

    All the best

Good Dog? Bad Dog? By Rosie Barclay. This book concentrates on changing the traditional views of how we perceive and treat our dogs using what we have learned from scientific research so far. It starts at the beginning by looking at ways of how to chose and bring up a new puppy that may reduce the likelihood of future problems. It then goes on to cover different problems that commonly occur between owners and their maturing or adult dogs by discussing real case studies. TO BUY VISIT www.rosiebarclay.com
