Cat has swollen spot

Rating: 0

my cat has a swollen spot on his back just at the top of his tail and the top of his tail looks swollen, I touched the spot and it appears mushy like, he won't let me lift up the fur to see if there are any scratch or bite marks, he just keeps licking it down. there doesn't appear to be blood or a scab there from what I can see. He feels as if he is running a fever, and yelps when I pick him up or touch near the spot..even growled a couple times. Hes been very sluggish and not moving around alot. Is eating but not as much. Any idea what this could be? I am going to try to get him into the vet tomorrow, but just wondered what this could possible be.

If the cat is an outdoor cat or there are other cats in the household, this could be a bite wound abscess. Fever is not uncommon which in turn leads to lethargy. Assessment by a veterinarian is needed so that appropriate antibiotics can be prescribed.
