Diarrhea

My dog ripped up toilet paper and he must have eaten some. He has had diarrhea all day. He has all his shots and is in my suppervision almost always. He has not gone anywhere new. He was acting normal, playing, eating drinking, just has had horrible diarrhea! His rectum is now bleeding from pooping so much. I did not take him to the vet because he acted fine, so I thought it would pass. Money is a bit of a issue, but not if he needs it.

How long has he had the diarrhoea for? I think it's fine to wait and see as long as he is acting normal. even some blood in the stools isn't necessarily serious in the short term, especially if they are well. Feed him a bland diet and keep an eye on him, if it persists for more than 3 or 4 days, or he vomits profusely then maybe get him checked out.

Do you think it could be the toilet paper? That is the only thing that was different in his day. It has been 1 1/2 days. It is explosive & runny but has a sand texture to it. He only weighs 8 pounds, I am giving him gel vitamins (Nutri-Stat) & water. Any food was just shooting out. He still is acting happy, but there is a bit more blood.

It could be the toilet paper, although it's not normally something that would produce this strong a reaction- more likely in the course of chewing and eating things he picked up something else. What you are doing is fine.. it's better to continue feeding a bland diet even when there is diarrhoea coming through, as they will be getting some nutrition rather than starving the already damaged intestine.
