Puppy Shots

Rating: 0

My new puppy just got his first shots at 15 weeks, is he going to be ok? I know this is kind of late.

Your puppy will be fine.  The vaccinations he has started will protect him from these diseases if he is exposed to them in the future.  As long as he is healthy now, there is no problem.  Be sure to get boosters three to four weeks from now.  He will need to get these in a series of three, each one three-four weeks apart his first time (these are his puppy shots), then once yearly from then on.  This is to ensure that the vaccine works correctly.  I have seen dogs 4-5 years old receive their "puppy shots" at that age to protect them for the rest of their life.  You may see a small elevated spot where he got his vaccine and it may be sore in that spot for the next few days.  If it lasts more than 3-4 days, call your veterinarian.  If you have any other questions, you can certainly ask me, or your veterinarian.
