my dog has a small lump on his head (about 1/4") -- it looks like a wart. We have ticks in our area - I checked the lump/wart to see if I could see a body - I could not. Do ticks burrel under the skin to conceal themsleves?

No, that is probably a wart, ticks will feed for a day or two and drop off. If there is a scab, if could be where a tick was. If it grows quickly it could be a tumor and should be checked.
