abcess on dog

Rating: 9

My lab has an abcess on her neck due to a dog bite, the vet quoted me $1200 but then took me aside and told me to try to do it myself with hot water and some pressure, any help would be great!

You need to find a different vet. 1200 for an abscess is a little much. I will probably need to be lanced open drained and flushed and then the dog will need antibiotics. I dont know where you are located but my clinic would be happy to treat your dog for a far better price. Hope this helps. Please dont forget to rate my answer. AMY

We have her on antibiotics and have been able to get some of it out using pressure and warm water. She seems a bit better but still has a lump. We will try again tonight to drain it ourselves gently ofcourse. the vet has since called me and offered to take a couple hundred of the price. I am in California but I appreciate the advice.

No problem but be very careful draining it yourself cause you can cause more infecton or she could bite you. Happy hoildays AMY
