my cat is chewing his coat until he has it pulled out exposing bare skin on his side-- what is this and how can it be cured

I would suggest taking him to the vet. This could be a sign of pain, but they would be able to do a an exam from head to tail and find out what is going on. Hope this helps. Please dont forget to rate my answer. Amy
