Aural Hematoma, Would He Have Survived?

Rating: 0

My cat had an aural hematoma, and I brought him to my mother-in-law's so he wouldn't be bothered by my other pets and wouldn't contaminate them. When this all started the swelling was slight, and he didn't seem to have much discomfort. Howver, the lady that had him decided to try draining his ear herself, and when she did it, (without my knowledge), she used a dirty jackknife and his ear quickly became infected. I stopped by to check on him a few days later, and his whole face had swollen up and he had pus running down. His ear had just about rotted right off his head, and I was devastated by the change that he had taken. He could barely walk and was in such rough shape that he had to be put down that night. I don't know if that lady did anything else to him, but if she had left him alone like I told her, and I took him to his vet appointment three days later, would there have been any chance that he would have survived and not have been infected had she not tried to drain his ear? She may have also given him Demerol, I found this out later. She's a very stupid old woman and I can never forgive her for what she did to my cat, particularly after I had told her not to touch it. Would he have had a better chance at surviving?
