My friend's cat

Rating: 7

I have a friend who's wife recently died a couple of month's ago. Their one cat, a "weegie" was very attached to her. Since then he insists on pooping around the house rather than in the litter box. What can he do to get the cat to starting going in the litter box again. The cat "Ollie" is about 6 years old so he knows better.

    Dear Nikki
The important thing he must do is to try and make life for “Ollie” as normal as possible. If he poops in the house just calmly pick it up, pop a bit into the soil box and clean the area thoroughly with biological washing powder and then spray with an odour eliminator. Do not get cross. If he has started to prefer another substrate then use this to line the box and then gradually replace a preferred litter little by little over time. His environment has changed and so will his usual routine so try and make it as normal as possible. Perhaps a few chase games and some tasty treats might make him feel a bit better.
If he is still going in the wrong places I would suggest that he asks advice from a qualified animal behaviourist recommended by his vet.
    Hope that helps a little

Good Dog? Bad Dog? By Rosie Barclay. This book concentrates on changing the traditional views of how we perceive and treat our dogs using what we have learned from scientific research so far. It starts at the beginning by looking at ways of how to chose and bring up a new puppy that may reduce the likelihood of future problems. It then goes on to cover different problems that commonly occur between owners and their maturing or adult dogs by discussing real case studies. TO BUY VISIT www.rosiebarclay.com
