Rating: 0

i just entered a question about my pitbull dog that is shaking and now i realize i forgot to say that we did give her a rawhide bone, which she devoured and then we did find pieces of the rawhide in her stool and vomit. could she have an obstruction? can i give her milk of magnesia or something?

There are some types of rawhide known to have toxic effects on certain dogs.  Most of them are no longer on the market, but some seem to still get out there now and then.  The shaking could be a sign of a toxicity reaction to something like snail bait, walnut casings (a mold in them is toxic) are only a couple more common things to cause this affect.

I would not give her anything at all if she is vomiting until she has not vomited for 4 hours...then start with water only small quantities every 2 hours for the next 8-12 hours.  Then you can introduce small amounts of bland food (ie: boiled chicken and rice...regular white rice, not minute or brown rice).

If she is still shaking and/or vomiting... get her to her veterinarian ASAP.

    All the best,
