Cat's toe

Rating: 5

My cat has toe that is enlarged and swollen. She also has toenails that are odd. Some of them are pointed in the wrong direction. Have you ever seen anything like this? (Picture attached) It doesn't seem to be hurting her and she doesn't lick or bite at it. Thanks for your help.

I have never seen anything like that before. WOW. I would suggest taking her to the vet.

Ok. I took her to the vet today. I was told it's a tumor on her toe and she needs surgery. The bill will be over $400.00. I'm sorry but that's unacceptable. When did veterinarians get so expensive?? Geeesh!! I told them I wanted to get a second opinion. This guy did not act compassionate or caring at all. He spent 2 minutes with us and I was charged $46 for the office visit. I can't afford this. Any suggestions?

Certainly it is never a bad idea to get a 2nd opinion. Unfortunatly yes like evrything else in this world prices go up at least 2 times a year from the suppliers for the veterinary clinics and hospitals. The prices you have been given seem pretty fair for tumor surgery. The amount you were charged for and exam is about average as well. I know it can be tough if I didnt work for a vet I probably would be in the same boat as well.  The price we get charged goes up so naturally the price increase trickles down to the clients. I hope you can find someone that can take the tumor off for you and your cat. Please rate this answer. AMY

Well, I called around and from what I could tell, $46 for a consult is a little high. I'm sorry but $400 for surgery on a cat's toe is excessive. I could understand if it was a tumor in the belly or something. Anyway, I have been getting recommendations from friends locally and I will try another vet. Thanks.

Okay. I wish you all the best for you and your cat. Even were I am located we stay competitve with other vet prices and yes for a consult 46 is too high but for an exam no. Our price is 45.90. I hope all goes well with your cat. AMY
