chewing on tail

a week ago we got a 2 and 5 month mix bread dog from the pound. she is a little under weigth. she is a very loving. we think she has started to chew on her tail. she only does it when we are not home never infron of us. i believe that has to do anxiety. how can we help her. Vete recomend to cut the tail but we wanted to work on her anxiety first. what should we do?

    There are different anxiety drugs to try but the issue could be the fact that the blood supply to the tail is poor. The tail probably needs to come off. I would take her to another vet for a second opinion before surgery.
