My dog Daisey has nasty ears and I was told it was mites. Despite cleaning and using a mite medication ,nothing has helped to clear it up.What else could help her. She is miserable with head shaking and rolling all over the floor and my bed.

There may be another component to Daisey's ear problem. If the mite medication hasn't alleviated the symptoms it may be a bacterial or yeast infection. Yeast infections usually have a dark ear discharge, bacterial infections usually have a more yellowish discharge. If bacteria are seen on the ear swab a culture may need to be done to find out what antibiotic will kill the bacteria. There are specific medications for yeast infections.

Daisey update : She dis have a nasty yeast infection and had to have her ear irragaited and then she was put on antibiotics and Otic solution. She hated every minute of the proceedure and had to be gassed so they could clean her ears and remove the hair. Apparently my groomer is not so thorough. I hope to see her soon back to her old self. Thank you !

Sorry Daisy didn't enjoy her procedure :) I bet she will be back to her old self soon. Tell your groomer that her ears should be cleaned out with a drying solution after bathing to get the moisture out. Yeasts and bacteria love moist ears! You can also use the ear solution at home once a week to clean her ears routinely just to keep things under control. Good luck!
