My mother smokes and when she visits, she smokes on the enclosed porch. Sometimes she forgets to rinse the ash tray and my cat runs out there when we open the door to lick the ash tray. Why does my cat insist on licking ash trays?

Please don't let your cat do this as this can be harmful and toxic. As for why I am not quite sure except maybe she likes the different taste/texture
