My dog is drooling really bad. I just noticed it within the last few hours. Could it just be a cold or something serious?

This is a very unfortunate siduation in that it may be nothing at all or potentially something serious.  Excessive drooling is most commonly a result of tasting or eating something which turned out to be very yucky such as a toad or certain lizards which secrete an enzyme thats more bitter than words can describe.   Labs are well known for mouthing anything they find which may potentially be food.  That being said it is also remotely possible that this may be caused by a very serious condition in which the stomach twists on itself, cutting off blood supply to parts of the organ.  The hallmark symptom is sudden and severe drooling.  If your dog seems normal except for the drool, he probably tried to eat a critter, but if he's acting sickly, lethargic or either gulping air or burping you need to have him taken to a 24 hour emergency animal hospital IMMEDIATELY.  This is a life threatening condition which requires emergency surgery or it is 100% fatal.  Either way if the drooling hasnt stopped completely in the morning I would see your vet first thing.
