Eating Poop

We have had Yoshi about a month now.. and are in the process of trying to train him to go on a puppy pad since it's been very cold for us and is not an option to take him outside. I noticed the other day for the first time that he started eating his own poop and I have no idea why or if I should even be concerned. My first instinct was that this was NOT normal. What should I do and why would he do this?

Many puppies will eat their own poop and its a very frustrating problem to deal with and treat.

the first step is to rule out any intestinal parasites so ask your vet to check a stool sample if they haven't already.

Then be as consistent as you can in removing the poop as soon as he goes.  Some owners will often add an enzyme to the food to try and get the food digested better such as prozyme or even a sprinkle of meet tenderiser.

Most puppies will outgrow it though
