help my cat started limpoing yesterday but i could find no visible injury to his paw or leg, but now the pads of his paw and from what i can tell the paw itself is turning dark purple.

It sounds like there has been an injury with some bruising to the paw. Whether you see a vet with Buddy depends on the severity of the injury- if it doesn't improve quite quickly he may need an xray to check out if there is a toe fracture, or investigation for a foreign body. The other thing to check is whether the paw is warm, indicating that the blood supply to the toes isn't damaged by the injury.
