Is Denamarin an effective medication for dogs with Liver Disease? I have a 3.5 pound Chihuahua, named Zoe who has Liver Disease, and the vet just put her on Denamarin 1/2 tablet once a day, and Amoxi Drops with Flagyl added to it 0.5 ml,every 12 hours! How do these medications, help a dog that has Liver Disease? What are the benefits of these medications?

Denamarin is a supliment that contains SAM-e.  It has shown in studies to improve and protect liver cells.  It is not a cure, however, for liver disease.  Most of our patients with any liver issues are recommended to supliment their dogs nutrition with some form of SAM-e.  Most SAM-e suplimentation is for people.  Denamarin is specially designed for maximum absorbtion in dogs and contains other holistic supliments to aid a dogs health.  It is recommended that routine blood evaluations are performed to note the effacacy.

All the best for Zoe (she's a cutie patutie for sure)
