Avocado ingestion

My Golden Retriever got a hold of a sandwich with avocado slices at lunch and now (6 hours later) she is refusing dinner. She has appeared to be trying to vomit. How concerned should I be at this time?

Keep an eye on her. Make sure that she is taking fluids. Is she being productive when vomiting or is is dry wretching?  Does her tummy seem distented at all.

There is a condition where the stomach can bloat with gas and then begin to twist, called gastric dilatation and volvulus. This is life threatening. Symptoms include vomiting with no production, panting, bloated tummy, collapse,. It usually occurs after exercise and about an hour after food.

If you are concerned at all then ring your emergency vet for advice. If just a tummy upset i would advise a bland diet, with a period of 24hr starvation with just water, then small meals of bland foof like chicken, fish, rice. Then see what happens.

    Hope she is ok.
