dogs have scent glands in their anus called 'anal glands' that tend to fill up on occasion. some animals express them on their own just by passing a bowel movement, but some dogs need them manually expressed. ive seen animals develop an infection in their anal glands, too. the reason for the constipation could be because they are in a lot of pain and are uncomfortable due to their glands. definitely take your dog to the vet and get that checked out.
