Eating pattern and barking

Rating: 9

Bonnie is having regular exercise & is as lively and happy in herself as she always is - but the last few days she seems to have gone off her food. I have tried coaxing her from hand to mouth and even with different foods - but she is having none of it! Any ideas? The only slight thing that she is doing which is out of character for her is that her energy levels seem higher wanting more attention than normal and barking when she doesnt get it!

Hi It is important that she is checked over by your vet before looking for a behavioural explanation. If your vet can't find anything wrong with her simply ignore all her barking and attention seeking behaviour but give her something else to distract her and that she can do on her own. Perhaps a toy that you can hide a tasty reward in. If she follows you around a lot, ignore her and if she barks at you just turn away (no eye contact) and walk off. When you are ready and she is calm call her over and offer her a game or treat but you start this and not her. If she refuses the treat (one she normally would take). Don't make a big fuss about it, put it away and try again later. However, she may be trying to tell you something about the way she feels so make sure you visit your vet first. Hope this helps Rosie Barclay

Good Dog? Bad Dog? By Rosie Barclay. This book concentrates on changing the traditional views of how we perceive and treat our dogs using what we have learned from scientific research so far. It starts at the beginning by looking at ways of how to chose and bring up a new puppy that may reduce the likelihood of future problems. It then goes on to cover different problems that commonly occur between owners and their maturing or adult dogs by discussing real case studies. TO BUY VISIT www.rosiebarclay.com
