Hi Karla Do you have a picture of these lesions? That would be helpful. It does sound like Teddy has got one of the following: 1) Sarcoptic Mange - caused by mites, is very itchy and skin gets red and painful. The mites are too small to be seen without a microscope, and are transmitted from other dogs or foxed 2) Demodectic mange - these are mites already present in the hair follicles, and they can overgrow when the immune responses of the dog are depressed. This causes secondary bacterial/fungal infection of the skin, is very itchy and can be difficult to treat. Usually occurs earlier in life though. 3) Bacterial/fungal dermatitis 4) Allergic dermatitis/atopy These are my main differentials, and which ever he has got it does need treatment. Do have to take him to the vets as soon as you can to make his life more comfortable. Torunn Beurling DrMedVet
