Well first to clarify, cestoved is an antihelmenthic. Meaning it treats tapeworms, not a bacterial infection. The worms are an intestinal parasite that actually live in the animals digestive tract. Tapeworms are contracted when a pet eats a flea that carries the larval form of the parasite. The larva mature in the stomach and reproduce and colonize the digestive tract. Out of all GI parasites, tapeworms are probably the most common, and least harmful. They are however, very unsightly and are comonly noticed when the young worms are expelled from an animals rectum either in feces or simply slither out on their own. Comonly known in vet med as "slithering rice".
Praziquantel, the active drug in Cestoved tablets is safe for administration in nursing dogs and will not harm the puppies, but will most likely not make its way to the puppies in a therapudic dose through nursing. If you notice the puppies displaying symptoms of intestinal parasites simply take them to your vet once they're at least 3 or4 weeks old to be wormed.
