Nursing Dog

Rating: 10
Peaches
Peaches

Peaches has puppies that are 5 weeks old, and she has bloody diarria..but most of it is straight blood. I thought it might be coccidia, so I gave her 1 dose of treatment for that. Should I be worried, what else could this be, and could it affect the puppies she is still nursing?

if i was you i wouldnt hesitate in taking Peaches along to your nearest vets. The diarrhoea could be viral, bacterial or dietary either way haemorrhagic diarrhoea is not something that should be left. I would start weaning the puppies staright away as Peaches is no doubt going to need treatment, the puppies should be fine at 5 weeks to be weaned and should thrive well as long as mum doesnt have a viral or bacterial infection causing the diarrhoea, in which case they may contract it also.
