Hacking!!!

Rating: 0
Shiloh
Shiloh

Shiloh is my 1year old pitbull who LOVES to chew on plastic bottles, pens, anything like that she can find. Although we try to make sure she doesn't get into any of that it still happens. I had a water bottle on my night stand and she got a hold of it. By the time I caught her the cap was chewed off and the top was chewed off. I pulled a plastic piece out of her mouth. However the last two mornings since it happened she is hacking like she is trying to get something out of her throat. It seems like she gets something out then swallows again. The moment she starts to run or jump around she starts hacking again. I think a piece of plastic is in her throat but i'm not sure. Help what do I do??

The only thing you can do is get her to a 24 hour emergency vet since there are probably no vets open on Sunday. You can try to look down her throat to see if you see anything, but really there's nothing you can do at home to get it out. I know this could be difficult trying to look down her throat as I too have a pit bull. Try to get to a 24 hour emergency clinic!

She is fine otherwise. She hasn't hacked at all since early this morning. But this is what happened yesterday as well. She is running around right now as I am typing this. So if there isn't anything in her throat what else could it be? She has all her shots current and takes heart worm prevention medicine.

She could have had something in her throat but it is gone now. It could've caused some inflammation in her throat making her hack and cough. I think she'll be fine until you can get her to your vet tomorrow.
