itchy rash

Our dog has a red rash on the inside of his back legs. We are now starting to notice that he also has a small patch on his chest and a patch on the outside of his right leg. He is starting to lose hair in these areas and it always looks, "bloody". What can we do? He goes through spells where he tries to bite or lick these areas.

My first question would be if you are using any sort of flea control product like Advantage or Frontline. My next one would be what food are you feeding him? You would want to rule out a flea allergy or food allergy. Then possibly look at the possibility of a hot spot.

He is on Sentinel Interceptor and has one dose left.  He is eating Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lovers Soul large breed formula.  He has been on these since we got him in March of this year.  The Sentinel I think since April or May.  I did notice that the Sentinel is marked with months to give to the dog and our vet gave us a two of the same month, I don't know if that will make a difference.

I don't think it will. So if he is on flea control and a pretty good food. You may be looking at something like a hot spot or demodex. I would take him to the vet and have it checked out. A hot spot is easy to treat with steroids and is diagnosible with out any real lab work. Demodex they will do a skin scraping to rule that one out. Best of luck. Let me know how things turn out!
