Very Sick Dog

Rating: 10
Lilly
Lilly

My bassett has been sick for about a week. Her symptoms started out as listlessness, loss of appetite, and then progressed to bloody diaharrea and shaking. She drinks water and pees all the time. I have been giving her burger and rice to eat which she will eat. Her stools then turned tarry and then today they seemed to be kind of green. She isn't herself and still shakes and wont leave my side. What could she have?

I really think that Lilly needs urgent veterinary attention, to have had diarrohea for over a week is not good, especially if there has been blood present for most of the time.

it is good that she still has an appetite although i wouldnt recommend feeding burgers as they are very high salt and fat, the best food would be chicken and rice, or cooked fish, little and often.

I am presuming that she has been vaccinated and is up to date with all boosters? If not it could be a most nasty disease.

The vets will be able to support her with fluid if necessary or give you rehuydration sachets.

Hope you manage to get her sorted asap.

    Regards

I have a 1 year old basset with similar symptoms. he went fro being constipated to pooping gel-like red stuff to straight blood. i took him to the vet and he was given some medication to stop the bleeding as well as antibiotic. vet said possible blockage in intestinal track was likely the cause. we waited couple days to see if he passed anything, but he has not . 2nd visit to vet xray was done, nothing showed up but still could be blocked by soft material like sponge etc. third visit more blood work more antibiotics, still no answer. let me know if you figure out what is making your pup sick.
