Just wondering when a cat is no longer a kitten and is an adult cat. I have a very well behaved tabby cat. he is 2 years old. I have him on adult food and he likes dry cat food only. He doesn't eat table scrapes of any kind. He's healthy but his mannerisms and is livliness are very much kitten. is that normal and a what age to they start showing adult characteristics.

Hi there, There is no exact cut-off point where a kitten turns into an adult cat. However, the general consensus is that adulthood is represented by sexual maturity, or the ability to reproduce. In cats, this is around 5-6months, which is why vets advise neutering at this age. Your 2 year old cat would be classed as a 'young adult'. It is common and normal for cats of his age to be playful. In fact what we call playing is often a cats way of expressing normal hunting & chasing instinct - indoor cats especially need an oulet to express this. Playing with your cat, providing stimulation in this way, will help to satisfy that.
