My 6 year old lab mix stopped chewing his food and now just gulp it down. For a short period of time I feed him a soft mix, he chokes while eating his food, how do I get him to slow his eating and start chewing his food again? He is feed once a day. He 2 days ago he appeared constipated and yesterday diarrhea, but he was is today and his normal active self.

This doesn't sound normal to me. I worry that he has dental problems - that's a common reason for animals having a hard time chewing their food. It's also possible that he has a neurologic dysfunction leading to difficulty swallowing.

I recommend taking him to the vet for an exam to evaluate what the problem is.
