how can i tell if my snkes have mites

Hello Elizabeth...
Mites can be very difficult to find on snakes. If you suspect your snake has mites, you should seek assistance from your local veterinarian. If you don't have one for your snake, check around for one that will see reptiles. Not all veterinarians are comfortable treating reptiles.

Yes, mites can be difficult to find, but if you suspect them I suggest contacting your vet and/or researching more and looking at some photos.
