flea dermintitus

my dog emily is 2 1/2 years old she has what is called flea dermentitus i guess this is how it is spelled but our vet is now saying she can no longer have steroid injections for this condition she scratches herself raw and has no more fur on her behind... is their anything i can purchase besides the special shampoo i already have as well as the omega stuff i feel bad and put cortozine spray on her every day to releive the hot spots....... help.............

    First and foremost, she needs to be on a topical flea preventative such as K9-Advantix or Frontlne Plus.  You will also need to treat your house and yard.  There is no way around these things, they must be done.  You can give her Zyrtec 5mg twice a day, claritin 5mg twice a day, or Benadrly 25mg 2 or 3 times a day.  Unfortunately nothing will work as well as the steriods do.  There are anti-itch shampoos and cream rinses that you can you.  The cream rinse will be important if you are bathing a lot because bathing a lot can dry her skin and may make her more itchy.
