Vomiting

Gizmo

My boyfriend's 1 year old Shih Tzu puppy had a black/ blue item in his vomit. The item resembels the black sponge of a small sponge hair roller. He's a very energetic/ happy dog, but he becomes slow and somber when this happens, like most dogs after vomiting. Have you ever heard of anything like this? This isn't the first time that this has happened, but I would like to know the cause of it.

Hi, If the object is black, it could be a blood clot, which means there is gastrointestinal bleeding, and Gizmo should be examined by a vet. If it is bluish, this is probably a foreign body that he has swallowed. If his appetite is fine, he is otherwise bright and passing normal stools, then yothere cannot be a blockage. If in doubt, take him to your veterinary clinic and bring a sample of the vomit with you if you can. Make sure he has been wormed with a proper prescription wormer, as worms can cause intermittent vomiting.

It could be a change in food, different treats or it could be something that he is allergic to that was in something he might have ate.
