Has Ace been evaluated for liver disease?  Most (but not all) cases are associated with severe liver disease or some other concurrent internal disease.  Ace may need antibiotics and/or antifungal medications to treat secondary infections, hydrotherapy and shampoos can help, steroids such as prednisone are also of benefit but can worsen the underlying cause.  The focus should be on the underlying cause, finding it, and treating it if possible.
