Sky is having another few bad days, but this I'm really nervous. She has not eaten since tuesday, today being Thursday, Tuesday night sh threw up just about everthing she had for dinner. She has been panting very hard and pacing. Her mouth is open with tongue hanging out and today her nose is running. Enough so that it is dripping. She is still drinking water and going out to the bathroom. But just about thirty minutes ago she started heaving as though she was going to get sick but nothing came. I have called the vet but have not heard back from them yet.

Hello I am sorry to hear about Sky. The symptoms you are describing can denote several medical conditions including; diabetes and renal failure.

If your vet has not gotten back with you you need to schedule an emergency appointment.

Sorry that is the best I can do. I wish you luck.

She just had her yearly senior health check in july or aug not sure at this moment. Was not diagnosis with diabetes. So do you think renal failure is more than likely what is going on? What type of pain might she been in? I have always heard that if they are panting that it could be pain. Is that true?

Hello again, when Sky had her senior exam did your Vet run a blood panel? Normally renal failure will cause anorexia becuase the wastes your body produce are not being excreted, so it makes the animal nauseas. The panting and drooling can be signs of upper respiratory illness especially Congestive Heart Failure (which is not as scarry as it sounds) this is when fluid surrounds the heart. This normally happens in older dogs and people. The panting can be pain, but mostly I would assume upper respiratory. I hope you have taken her to your vet she sounds like a wonderful friend and companion. I wish you the best of luck Tina.
