Kitten in grave danger

We have a 10 day-old kitten, born prematurely, that has has not eaten in about 8 hours, has diarrhea with a little blood, and is VERY lethargic. Its weight is about 2.5 ounces. Is there anything we can do to help keep it alive overnight so we can get it to a vet in the morning?

really you must see your vet asap here. there is not much more you can do yourself. Is there an emergency clinic in your area?

Every day I see pets come into my clinic injured and unwell. Its always so upsetting knowing that treatment could be taken a lot further only if the owner had taken out pet insurance. You have health insurance, so should your pet... Dr Brooks

Thanks, Dave.  We made it to the vet, but the kitten died a few hours later.  All internal functions seemed normal so she guessed it could be worms.  There are 2 others, a little bigger, and now one of them is beginning to have the same symptoms.  Our vet gave us worm medication for all 3 kittens, but since the sick one died we're afraid to proceed with medication for the other two.  They are getting some milk from their mother, and some formula as well.  How risky is giving worm medication to a 3-ounce kitten?

Im really sorry to hear about your loss..

I would be tempted to hold off on the wormer for now. I DO NOT think the wormer was the cause of the other kittens death however. Some kittens just dont thrive unfortunately.

I hope the others do well. Yours, David
