Eye injury

  • Priscilla

She was scratched below the eye. The bottom lid is swollen and oozing. I am keeping it clean, treating with hydrogen peroxide and neosporin. She is also taking an antibiotic. I tried warm compresses last night. Should I continue in the same manner or do you recommend something else?

Symptoms: pain, wounds, eyes, lumps and swellings

Hi, I hope you are doing well. I am going to advise you to never ever use hydrogen peroxide on any "boo boo" ever again. Hydrogen peroxide hates tissue and can make pre-existing damage worse. I would also not use neosporin in the eyes just because if there is a corneal scratch (which you cannot see with out having the doctor stain the eye) more damage can be done.

Eyes are extremely serious since they can get worse very quickly. Please take your pet to the vet so you can get the correct kind of eye ointment specialized for whatever the problem may be.

Thank you and have a great day!
