Help Why is he vomiting and what can I do?

  • Mickey

Help. I am presently out of work and money is tight. Yet I need help. Our 6 year old cat has been vomiting up his food for 2 days now. He is a bit lethargic yet still seems to want to eat and drink. Just doesn't hold it down. He does not seem to be in pain. I have isolated him from the other 2 cats into a room with his own litterbox and I monitor his food, water. My last two attempts at food were first, an invalid's mix of pureed boiled chicken livers and rice. When he vomitted this, about 8 hrs later I tried baby food--chicken--that he vomitted within an hour. I am worried. It is late Sat. afternoon and no vet is open even if I could afford it. What should/can I do? I am worried about dehydration. He is an indoor cat so outside parasites and toxins are out.--although lately he has been trying to open my deodorant and lick it??!! I stop him but could a very limited taste of that do this? And it has been at least a week since he last managed to sneak it. Please help. I am very worried--this is a super special cat in our lives. I want him well.

    Symptoms: lethargy, vomiting

There are many things that can cause vomitting and lethargy.  Has he ever liked to get into garbage?  Is he vomiiting water as well as food.  Cats are notorious for string foreign bodies.  If your cat is over wieght, this could also be a sign of diabetes, but he would also be drinking and urinating a lot.  Helicobacter is another cause over vomiting in cats.  It is a bacteria that causes stomach ulcers.  He will likely need to be seen by a vet, in the mean time try giving him some mylanta (2ml) 2 or 3 times a day.  Hopefully that will settle his stomach so that he can keep some food down.  This, however, will not treat the underlying cause.
