my dog scratches all the time and now has open sores. What is it and what can I do to get rid of it?

    Itching can be caused by many things.  In a young dog, fleas are extremely common.  Just because you don't see fleas doen't mean he doesn't have them.  He could also have mange.  He is a little too young to have allergies, but it's not impossible.  He could also have a bacterial infection.  The treatment would depend on the underlying cause.  Benadryl, Claritin, or Zyrtec can help the itch, but will only mask the symptoms of the underlying cause.  He should be examined by your veterinarian.
