lump on tail

my dog mindy has developed a huge lump on her rear end by her tail. It must be the size of a baseball if not bigger. It's hard in some spots and squisy in others. I just noticed that she's bleeding from it now and I don't know what to do. She saw a vet when it was small and he said it must be a fatty tumor. Now a year later it has grown. They said they could operate but now that's it's so big is that possible?

Hi there, That would depend on how close the lump is to any tissue that you couldnt resect - for example, if the lump extends down to the anus and involves some of the external anal sphincter, a consequence of surgery could be fecal incontinence. Not pretty! I think you need to have this reevaluated. It could be that the lump got infected, and the "squishy" parts you feel may be infection, which could be treated and thus shrink the lump down to make surgery easier. It's impossible to say without an examination! So, take her to your vet and see what he/she says. Good luck!
