Behavior problem or just teething?

  • Nathan

    Good morning!
I have a kitten about 2 months old, he seems to bite our hands and feet alot.Is this just teething or aggressive behavior? What can we do to make him stop biting? These teeth are very sharp! Also I need some feedback on declawing. I hear good and bad things and I don't want to hurt my kitty in any way. Thanks for your help, it is appreciated!!!!!

    Hi Nathan

Could be either. Just distract kitten into playing with something else other than your hand. Something dangling on the end of a stick is good or a ping pong ball. Then concentrate on making hands nice things that give food rather than things seen as food. If he doesn't stop be quite firm, say "no" as you are removing your hand and stop the game. If he attacks your feet, pretend you are not bothered, wear boots and distract with other toys.

In the UK we do not declaw. We view it as mutilation. You can keep the tips cut back a bit and make sure that he has cat scratching posts around the house in prominent areas so he doesn't scratch the furniture as scratching is a natural cat behaviour.

    Hope this helps

Good Dog? Bad Dog? By Rosie Barclay. This book concentrates on changing the traditional views of how we perceive and treat our dogs using what we have learned from scientific research so far. It starts at the beginning by looking at ways of how to chose and bring up a new puppy that may reduce the likelihood of future problems. It then goes on to cover different problems that commonly occur between owners and their maturing or adult dogs by discussing real case studies. TO BUY VISIT www.rosiebarclay.com
