I have a boxer/collie mix. She is 3 years old and a little princess!! The past week or week and a half she has been rubbing her behind on the carpet. She's not "scooting" across the floor, but she's making complete circles as if she's scratching her behind. I didnt think anything of it untill I noticed her "private part" is really swollen. She is not acting any different or her appetite isnt any different other than that and there have been a few nights this past week that she's thrown up and it seems she has to go "tinkle" more than usual. She still wants to play and she's still active and hyper and what not. I'm not sure why or what has caused her to be swollen....Can you help?

Mark Nunez says:
You could be dealing with an anal gland issue or a urinary tract infection (UTI). If you dog is over weight she could have excessive vulvar folds that predispose her to UTI's and cause local irritation that will make her rub her behind on the floor. If she is urinating frequently that is a definite sign of a UTI and she should be given antibiotics and possibly have her urine cultured.
