The majority of lumps and growths are benign. How long have they been there? Even if they are big, as long as they are not rapidly growing or interfering with movement they can still be harmless. The only sure way to know what a lump consists of is to biopsy, but you can get a good balance of probability from physical exam in many cases, so it could be worth getting him checked just to put your mind at rest. If he's well, and the lumps are non-painful, don't seem to be invading local tissue underlying the skin, and haven't appeared and grown very suddenly, they are most likely to be harmless.
