possible UTI??

I just resucued a 5 year old Mini-Poodle from the SPCA in Orlando Florida on Wednesday 9/17/08. She was spayed that wednesday morning and came home that night. She was a bit warn out wednesday night and did vomit after drinking some water. Thursday she seemed better and yesterday (Friday) she was energetic and fine, but i did notice a cough that sounded more like a hair ball or something. This morning (Saturday) she was little less energetic but still ok. She drank water, ate a little food and went outside and went to the bathroom. My roommate thinks she might have a unrinary track infection due to her tiredness today and her squating to pee but not actually peeing all the time. Are their any other signs to look out for? How long should I wait before I take her to the vet? My next day off is not until 2 more days. Is that too long to wait??

If you truly believe she has a UTI you can follow her with a tupper ware container or a tin pie pan and try and catch a  urine sample. After you catch the sample please put it in the fridge and then call your vet and see if you can drop off the sample.

The coughing is nothing to worry about. When we put an animal under anesthesia we insert a tube into the animal's trachea in order to deliever oxygen and anesthesia. Anesthesia can aslo keep them from breathing, a mechanism known as parastalisis, so we insert the trach tube to keep the animal breating durring surgery. The coughing is probably because of the trach tube.

In additon, small breeds of doggies are predisposed to a condition called collapsing trachea. This basically means that the air way collapes on itself and in return a hoking noise is produced; this normally happens when the animal gets really excited. Try walking her with an harness.

I hope I have been helpful! I love poodles!!!!
