Vomiting Kitty

Rating: 9

My cat has been vomiting for the past couple of weeks intermittently. Most of the time it's in the middle of the night. She is acting completley normal otherwise (eating normally, happy, energetic, affectionate, etc.) The vomit usually includes a very large hairball and some of her food. Her food/treats have remained constant over the past year or so. It does not look like she has lost any weight either. She has never thrown up hairballs in the past. Should I be worried that she is throwing up almost every night? Do you think it is just a hairball problem or something more serious? Thank you.

It sounds very much like hairballs are the problem. Sometimes a sudden onset of vomiting hair can be due to overgrooming because of itchy or irritated skin, so that is a place to start. It doesn't sound like anything more serious even though it's a nightly event, as she is otherwise well. But it still ought to be dealt with in case it gets worse- dealing with the skin/coat problem if there is one, and some laxative to movethe hair through usually does the trick, although it also often rights itslef without treatment.
